Mayor Hands Out Donations
Congratulations to Councillor Gloria Wills for successfully raising over £5000 for the Mayor’s Charity Fund during her year as Sedgefield’s Mayor. Presentations from this fund were made during the Annual Town Meeting to the following recipients:
Alzheimer’s Society, Pop In, 1st Sedgefield Brownies, 2nd Sedgefield Brownies, Guides, Taste & See, Sedgefield Harriers – Junior’s Division, Sedgefield Junior’s Squash Club, Scouts, Fishburn Dance & Drama, Sedgefield Community Hospital, Sedgefield Players, SPYS, Sedgefield Village Veterans, Tea Dance, Sedgefield Cricket Club, Sedgefield in Bloom, DIDO (Days In, Days Out), Wynyard FC Under 8’s and Sedgefield Village Crime Watch Panel.
Many thanks to all involved for supporting the Mayor’s charity events in 2015/16.
Citizen of the Year
Congratulations to Walter Howell, a very well respected member of the community who was delighted to receive the accolade of this year’s Citizen of the Year for Sedgefield.
Walter has been contributing to the village for over 40 years and has dedicated much of his time bringing enjoyment to the residents of Sedgefield. His work with the Sedgefield Players and the creation of the Junior Players (SPYS) has been appreciated by all who attend the community productions. Walter has also been noted for his contributions to the Scouts over the years.
Walter was joined by his family at the Annual Town Meeting when he was presented with this award which is jointly run between the Town Council, Sedgefield Development Trust and the Rotary.
Opportunity For Young People To Have Their Say On Sedgefield
The Town Council, in conjunction with Investing In Children, is holding an Agenda Day on 30th April 2016 at the Parish Hall in Sedgefield. If you are under 18 years of age and living in Sedgefield this is your opportunity to have your say in what you would like to see for young people in the town. A session will be held from 10:00am-12 noon for 11 year olds and under. A session will be held from 1:00-3:00pm for 12 to 17 year olds. There will be free food and activities, with no adults, and the opportunity to give your views and get paid! Annual Town Meeting
You are warmly welcomed to attend the Town Council’s Annual Town Meeting which will be held on Tuesday 3rd May 2016 at 7pm in Sedgefield Parish Hall. At this meeting the Town Council will present it’s Annual Report and Accounts for 2015/16. This is your opportunity to ask Councillors questions. Reports will also be presented by Durham Constabulary and the local Durham County Councillor. This meeting will be followed by the Mayor of Sedgefield presenting financial donations to her chosen charities and conclude with the presentation of the Citizen of the Year 2015.
