Butterwick Road Cemetery Expansion – Updates So Far!

Work to expand Butterwick Road Cemetery started on-site the week beginning 21st April 2025 with marking out the internal paths and creating the new funeral vehicle access road. The access road uses the existing track that once led to Sedgefield Community College and the entrance to Butterwick Road Allotments. With the removal of existing fencing, some trees and hedges, the track is now being turned into a access road for funeral vehicles only and includes a layby, turning area at the top and a widened entrance at the main road junction. With this road well underway, the next step is to dismantle the cemetery seating shelter seating so as to join the existing and new areas of the cemetery seamlessly. The materials from the shelter will be recycled into two seating areas near to the walkthrough.
