In the lead up to the Snow Party, we set pupils from Sedgefield Primary School and Sedgefield Hardwick Primary School a special task – help the Mayor decorate his Christmas tree!
This year’s Christmas Tree Festival held in St Edmund’s Church challenged organisations and businesses to decorate trees to the theme of ‘Christmas Stories’. The Mayor, Councillor Peter Hinde, enlisted the help of Y1 & Y2 in Sedgefield Primary School and Y2 & Y3 in Hardwick Primary School to make Christmas vest decorations to hang on his tree for the book ‘Little Robin Red Vest’. Each class read the book and then set about designing their own miniature vests that they would give to the little animals found in the book.
A few days prior to the launch of the festival, the Mayor visited both schools to take a look at the fantastic, festive creations. All children taking part received some sweets for their hard work, with one child from each class winning a selection box and pride of place at the top of the Mayor’s tree. It was a very tricky task but eventually our winners were chosen…
