STATEMENT: Remembrance Service

Sedgefield Town Council would like to take this opportunity to clear up any misinformation that has recently circulated on social media regarding this year’s Remembrance Sunday Service in Sedgefield.

This event, taking place this year on Sunday 9th November 2025, is a cherished event in the town that allows us all to come together to commemorate and honour those who have fallen in duty and all those who have and continue to serve our country.

In the same format as previous years, there will be a service of remembrance in St Edmund’s Church before attendees make their way to the Turning Circle for a short outdoor service and to observe the national two-minute silence. Following the two-minute silence, wreaths will be laid at the War Memorial. The Town Council works closely with Sedgefield District Uniformed Services Group and St Edmund’s Church to plan and co-ordinate this event.

Wreaths have always been and will continue to be laid by the Deputy Lieutenant who represents HM The King; The Mayor of Sedgefield on behalf of Sedgefield Town Council; one of the two Ward County Councillors on behalf of Durham County Council; veterans; uniformed services and an array of community groups.

All residents are warmly welcome to attend both the indoor and outdoor services and to observe those representatives laying wreaths.

As always, the Town Council can be contacted with any queries via telephone 01740 621273, in person via the Council offices or through the contact form here on our website.

Lest We Forget
