Mayor Ciaran Butterworth

Welcome to the new Mayor: Ciaran Butterworth

Councillor Ciaran Butterworth was elected as the Mayor of Sedgefield 2026/27 at our Annual General Meeting on Monday 18th May 2026. Ciaran had the follow to say about her new role:

“I am honoured to have been elected Mayor of Sedgefield for the coming year, a community I have proudly called home for nearly all my life. As a full-time working mum, I joined the council with a genuine desire to make a difference and to play an active role in shaping our town for future generations. It is a privilege to now serve in this role and I am especially delighted to be accompanied by my Dad as my consort, who himself served two terms as Mayor of Sedgefield.

My fundraising efforts this year will be split between my headline charity, Feeding Families, and a range of local causes. Feeding Families is a charity I have come to know through my teaching career as well as through its vital work in our area, providing food parcels for those who rely on them. With food banks being used more widely each year, this is a resource our community depends on more than many people realise.

I am truly looking forward to the year ahead and the opportunity to continue supporting and representing our wonderful community of Sedgefield.”

We will share any news and Mayor’s event posters on the Mayor’s page of our website, on our X account @SedgefieldTC, in the Sedgefield Extra and throughout the town.

Ciaran’s year of fundraising will culminate with the presentation of donations from the Mayor’s Charity to Feeding Families and a range of local causes, groups and organisations at our Annual Town Meeting in May 2027.
